Electric Annihilation
R.I.P. Electric Annihilation
Two years to the day of the release of Issue #1 of E.A. I am officially ending the publication. No, this is not an April Fool's Day joke. I have received nothing but positive feedback, and have received countless letters, drawings, etc. from fans, yet this is not enough. The first issue was completed in most part by me alone. My friend Zachary Fleming did all the artwork, and some friends did scene reports, and an article. Other than that, all the interview brainstorming, actual interviews, transcribing, editing, layout, funding (minus a few ads), etc. was done by me alone. I was fully motivated and dedicated to doing more issues, and even completed six interviews for the second issue, but the problem is that I have been unable to find writers. I did not want to have any reviews whatsoever, but wanted "articles". I had open submission for two years and have not received anything. I asked many writers to contribute but none could complete anything. So now that two years have passed, I feel it is time to move on and save my creative energies for something else. This is not to say I won't ever do another print zine, but it would be under a different name and approach.
There'll a lot of reminiscing going on around here today, and there's nothing I'd love/appreciate more than for you guys to mail (snail-mail of course) letters, drawings, whatever of support/feedback/criticism/jokes.
Also, of the 5000 copies printed, I still have a small stack left, and they are still $3ppd in the U.S. If you are ever in San Francisco there are free copies all over the place, and if you place an order with DNT Records you can request a free copy.
Thanks for all the support!

Some praise for EA:
"...interviews with a bunch of favorites including Sun Araw, Wet Hair (a track from which the title of the mag is pulled), Thurston Moore (of course) and a bunch more. Cool little scene reports from Sam Goldberg on Cleveland, Shawn Reed on Iowa, Matthias Andersson on Sweden and brief little chats with Steve Hauschildt from Emeralds an Henry Rollins on noise as the new bebop. Perhaps Mr. Rollins... I guess that's why he drops $250 on every American Tapes release that shows up on ebay but for my money I'll just snag the new shit and call it a day. Either way, it's great work and it's made by the inside, so there's some genuine dialogue here that's pretty far removed from your average Pitchfork hero worship. Plus there's 5000 copies of this joint, so you can find em all over for cheap, which basically leaves you no excuse whatsoever. Psyched for more to come from this situation." -ear conditioned nightmare
"oh boy, this is exciting news... our man in the west, tynan krakoff (who runs DNT), is launching a new publication... we're talking throw back, to the roots, OLD SCHOOL...if you know what's good for you, you know what to do. ah, this takes me back to the days when foxy digitalis was just a mere print 'zine... oh i was so young, so young...GET ON IT!" -foxy digitalis
"20 pages of pure noise-psych-punk excellence here. Just like the old days when you had to send SASE's (self addressed stamped envelope for you youngsters) to get your favorite zines, this one is only mail-order, and that's completely bad-ass. Includes interviews with Wet Hair, Emeralds, John Olson of Wolf Eyes, Sun Araw, and superheros Henry Rollins and Thurston Moore. I've thumbed through this issue and there's some awesome concert pics, along with the customary Rollins "I'm going to kick your fucking ass" photo. The Cameron Stallones (Sun Araw) interview, which is the only one I've had a chance to read was enlightening as he explains the creative process and the influences behind his otherworldly sounds, which made me anxious to get to the rest of the zine. It's $3, and that's just 19 cents more than a medium vanilla malt at Braums. WTF are you waiting on?" -redneck fistula
"Super zine that I've just received and which is undoubtedly one of the best I've read for ages." Kaugummi Books
